Theodor Koch

Theodor Koch advises clients in patent-, trademark- and design-related issues. He is active in application procedures of industrial property rights before the relevant offices, runs opposition and nullity proceedings in patent matters as well as opposition proceedings in trademark matters, and advises clients in the field of license and other agreements. Moreover, he assists clients in law suits and in preliminary ruling procedures before the European Court of Justice (ECJ) and the General Court of the European Union, as well as in trademark, design and patent infringement proceedings before the relevant infringement courts up to the German Federal Court of Justice, where he represents clients in cooperation with authorized attorneys-at-law.

Education

• Physics studies at the University of Bonn.
• Patent attorney training in Düsseldorf and Munich (German Patent and Trademark Office, German Federal Patent Court and Munich District Court).

Professional Activity

• Freelancer for the patent and trademark law firm of Wenzel & Kalkoff in Dortmund.
• Since 1976, additionally working in his own patent and trademark law firm, Koch, Dr. Bart & Barth jr. in Bonn.
• Since December 2016, cooperation partner of Geskes Patent- und Rechtsanwälte.
• Due to his education in natural science, Mr Koch disposes of comprehensive knowledge in general physics, mechanical engineering as well as electrical and power engineering. Regarding patents, he is also active in the field of sensors, plastics processing and environmental technology.

Related Activities

• Volunteer advisory activity as a patent attorney in Bonn and the Rhine-Sieg district within the framework of the advisory services for inventors offered by the patent attorneys in colaboration with the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg Chamber of Commerce.
• Member of the German Association for Industrial Property and Copyright (GRUR). Furthermore, member of the “Federation Internationale des Counseils en Propriete Industrielle” (FICPI), of the Institute of Patent Attorneys admitted at the European Patent Office (epi), of the Association of German Patent Attorneys and of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) (DE).
